The Sabotage Syndrome: A 2-Headed Dragon
The Dragon is in control and can only be slain using the magical sword hypnosis and hypnotic language. The fiery mouthed dragon flies into our lives and kills our dreams, abilities and ambitions. Would you be surprised to learn that dragon head number one lives only in our minds and dragon head number two lives in our client’s minds? The magical sword is a double-edged sword and can cut both ways, negative and positive. Your tongue and thought are the swords magic. Unfortunately, there are two types of magic that make up the double edged sword, black magic the negative side and white magic the positive side. Self-talk, self-thought for you and your client can sabotage or enrich your hypnotic sessions and client outcomes. Harness the positive magic and change for the better your life and your client’s lives.
Dragon head number one, the hypnotist.
Do you sabotage yourself with fear of taking action? Do you have faith and belief in hypnosis and yourself? Do you practice self-hypnosis? Do you study and practice hypnosis on a regular basis? I am in contact with many hypnotists through my teaching and networking. I find it surprisingly amazing at the number of “hypnotists” who have never hypnotized their first client, even after years of being certified. Why? Because they are still listening to the fiery mouthed dragon in their mind spewing out all the reasons why they are not ready yet. Saying to themselves: What script should I use for this? How do I get clients? I need to know how to do instant inductions. I could never be as good as so and so. How do I get certifications?
I hear a thousand other things that are based on fear of the dragon. Learn to use the magical sword of positive talk and thought. In my book Hypnosis: Putting the Imagination to work, you can understand how your imagination defines who you are by changing chemicals released in the brain.
Dragon head number two, the client.
The hypnotist sets the stage and must be able to slay the negative dragon within the brain of the client. That dragon head may be expecting magic or the one of hoping hypnosis will cure their issue. A god interview and explanation of hypnosis goes a long way slaying the dragon caused by perceptions of stage and movie hypnosis. The dragon head can possibly plant these thoughts into the client’s brain and subconscious. Successful clients may say: I hope this works. I hope it keeps working. What if it quits working? Their family may say, “so it was all in your head”. They quit doing their self-hypnosis. You can probably think of a number of things your clients have said that changed their outcome after a successful session. The magic is in the mind. It is a fire that has to have another log thrown on it to keep burning.
I spend a great deal of my client session explaining and teaching self-talk and how important it is. Self-talk and self-thought greatly increases its effectiveness when practiced in a state of self-hypnosis or meditation and uses pictures to describe and anchor the words.
Old Chinese proverb, “A picture is worth a thousand words”.
