Fibromyalgia Question

Question:

I have taken your Pain Management course and I am currently working my way through the Medical/Surgical course.

I have worked with a few pain clients with good results; however, I have my first Fibromyalgia client. She seems to be a bag of problems like you talked about in the courseware. Fibro, depression, CFS, immune system problems, RA, stress, anxiety and the
list goes on. Her primary concern is the constant pain from the Fibro but she
is a ball of stress with sexual abuse issues from her childhood. I know the stress
is the source of most of her problems (I think).

Where do I start?

Thanks

Response to question:

You may want to start by reviewing the section in the pain course on Fibromyalgia.

You should remember from the pain course that I stated that all chronic pain has an underlying stress component of around 85%. Therefore, I weave stress and comfort into every suggestion, metaphor, deepening and guided imagery starting with the induction. I do not compartmentalize my sessions. Everything is weaved together with each creating
synergy, pyramiding and fractionation to the next.

Tell her you will start with her stress. You can imbed suggestions for comfort, letting go of the burdens she carries on her shoulders, removing the chip from her shoulders. Allow the stress in each tender or trigger point to melt away in the same way the flickering flame melts away the wax of a candle. Replacing stress with comfort as you feel blood and
oxygen and nourishment flowing into those areas freeing them and allowing the
comfort to enter.

She will want to spend a lot fo time talking about all the problems of her past. That is for psychologist. Watch the videos you have of me working with clients. Guide her into living in the present. Every thought of her past is seen by her brain as not a memory but as real life.  An example would be thinking of eating a lemon and the body responding as if you are actually eating a lemon.  She is doing the same thing.

Your answer is in the Tips and Techniques DVD. You have all you need to help this lady be successful.
